Kahnawake - Arrival to Montreal and Day 1

Arriving back to Montreal, so excited to see old friends and make new ones!

A walk around in the sunshine before the workshop … up Mont Royal and enjoying the graffiti and architecture!

Then it is off to Dawson College where Our World is reunited with (filmmakers/mentors) Courtney Montour and Glenn Gear! Yahoo!

Thanks to Laura and Cheryl who get us extra equipment, supplies, keys, passwords, phones numbers and everything we need to get settled at Dawson.

We also meet Jackson and Marlene who are keen to make films! Welcome!

(Thanks to Jackson for helping us get snacks - and choose good things to eat!)

We all introduce ourselves and Glenn shares stories of his inspirations, his connection to his family in Hopedale Nunatsiavut and his latest work. We also hear stories/experiences from Jackson and Marlene and learn about their story ideas. Courtney also shares her short film Flat Rocks to illustrate ways to use imagery to tell a story.

Jackson make notes and plans some interviews and takes a camera, tripod and audio equipment home to capture footage tomorrow! His story is heading toward a theme about the importance of medicine for urban indigenous youth. Marlene writes her script centred around bannock and it’s meaning in her life. An incredible first night!

Thanks everyone! A fun and productive evening!
