Old Crow - day one - travel
On the road again!
Today is a travel day heading to Old Crow Yukon. First stop: Whitehorse...
Whitehorse is always where we stop for the night and where we buy groceries, since they are cheaper than in Old Crow, but today there was also time to visit the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre and Lumel Studios!
At the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre we met a fun and enthusiastic women, Rosie, who told us how this centre all came together when her father visited Musqueam Cultural Centre Gallery in Vancouver and felt inspired to have a similar place in his own community! It is a modern and beautiful cultural space with amazing light and artwork. Rosie's family figures prominently in the photos and art work on display! Thanks Rosie for the whirlwind tour! We also saw a exhibit called Wild Lives: Portraits and Stories from Yukon Traplines. that highlighted an Elder from Old Crow: Stephen Frost!
At Lumel Studios we meet founder and glass artist Luann who hopes to one day take a mobile glass blowing studio up to Old Crow, we encouraged this endeavour! She also gave winter socks to mentor Kellen to make sure her feet stay warm in Old Crow. Thanks Luann!
Being so far north it was still light out until 11pm but we have to get to sleep for our 5:20 shuttle to the airport!! ;)
