Bella Bella - Workshop Day 2
Even though some students went to Kitimat for the basketball tournament (GO TEAM) it was still a busy day of filmmaking!
The weather was over cast with only a sprinkle of rain here and there. Good for filming outside if need be…
Sam continued to compose his song, record his voice and envision his imagery. A storage closet was made into the ‘sound recording studio’ so Sam can shut the door and have privacy to perform. He also put the phrasing on his timeline and played with voice effects. He has a plan for his video and this is reflected in his sound effect choices. A few phrases have echo for when he is ‘talking on the phone’ and the other parts are for his lip-synced part. Sam learned the editing program fearlessly and completed an amazing load of work.
Georgia and Elle did more pre-production and then captured all of their locations for b-roll. They took advantage of the good weather (no rain) and walked all over town plus went to old town! They captured both video and stills and took turns using both cameras. They have plans to conduct their interviews on the weekend.
Bella continued to write her voice over as well as capturing 2 more Health Centre programs in action. She brought her own deluxe camera to use which was a gift from some friends who work in the Big House. Bella plans to film her intro on Sunday, weather permitting, and has her whole film thought out.
Hailey and Aaliyah filmed around town and then put some of the video on top of Hailey’s song. Hailey is still considering the concept for the film and took a camera home to work on Saturday. Aaliyah continued to edit, she has great timing and re-learned the editing program quickly . This team may decide to make their own films since their interests are diverging….we are open to the change in direction as they decide.
Ange worked on her edit , remembering the editing program quickly and having great ideas with text but also had some school work to do so split the morning between school and the workshop. She also got word of a death in her family so is considering how to move forward in the workshop. We are supportive for what she decides to do.
Kaitlynn finished making her puppet and then filmed some of her backgrounds of the school and Big House. Then she animated a scene with her character, EMMA. Kaitlynn really understands the green screen concept and even made her mouse jump into a bush! She also is a natural animator! Emma’s eyes blink! She is well on her way to making a hilarious film !
After the workshop Howie, Lori, Glenn, Lisa W and Desmond in one car and Bella, Lisa g and Kaitlynn in another car … made a quick drive to the river and the boardwalk for a little nature time before dinner! It smelled so nice and we learned about old man’s beard (the moss that hangs from trees) and how it is used to take smell away from your armpits, as a fire starter or a burn remedy.
THEN….Dinner was a Seafood FEAST ! Thanks Youth Centre: Lori and Howie for organizing!
Oolichan, 3 kinds of salmon, halibut and fish eggs! Potatoes, vegetable and jello!
We also had prawns, or was it shrimp???
It’s the same! It’s only different in size and name!
Also of note the kind folks at the Youth Centre started our day by giving us wicked Heiltsuk Nation sweatshirts!!! Thank YOU!
