Kangiqsujuaq - workshop day 3

This morning there is a soft sprinkling of snow falling. The water truck pulls up to the residence to fill up around 9am....

The mentors pop out to check out the Hunters shop…

Nigel arrives at 10:30 on the nose and gets down to his plan. Since Alex (residence animator) can't drive folks around for filming it is decided that Nigel will film at cemetery today (walking distance away). It is a glorious and warm day so it is fortuitous on many levels. Nigel goes over his script, making minor changes and then practices it and prepares for recording. He records in the quiet studio room in the back and puts it on the timeline. Unfortunately there is a clicking sound and perhaps it is his necklace or the headphone cord bumping the microphone so he is a trouper and records his powerful spoken word again. Sometimes filmmaking is about repeating actions to make it better. Then out into the day with Vixia camera, tripod and 3 extra batteries due to the cold. Courtney and Nigel film in the thigh deep snow for about 1.5 hours and in fact we can see them from the window of the workshop living room! They have to carry gear in DEEP snow, but amazing footage was captured. Nigel downloads the footage and starts laying it down on his timeline, making great headway, he has about 1 minute on his timeline he is reserving for the footage he wants to shoot at the community centre. Then, since he was up at 4am and came straight from the airport...(He did an amazing interview and perhaps may have landed a job!) he calls it a day around 4:30...

Ned comes in right after French class and starts work on his story. He is re-ordering his photos and learning how to make Ken burns photo moves. He is great on Final Cut! He uses Quicktime to capture some google map movement to give context as to where his story is taking place. He works with Glenn to make an animation to show his 600 km trip and he fills his timeline, start to finish!! Ned needs credits and few tweaks here and there. Wow! Great work!

Mark adds all his footage of his friend, Adamie, making a harpoon. We find out it Adamie’s own design! It is the first time he is making it! We also learn that the lyrics to the song are written by Mark specifically for the film and it is about seal hunting! Mark fills his timeline and makes credits. He is thinking about title for the video and a title for the song. Mark is almost done!! It turns out he doesn’t need to film igloo building since his film is almost done and it is already the perfect story.

Adamie adds photos to his timeline and considers his next steps...

Leena adds the rest of her photos and her title and credits! She also learns how to make her photos fill the frame! She works solid and has really learned the program fast! She is also so fun to work with as she gets so delighted with every new trick! Leena has a few things to do tomorrow but otherwise she is done!

All the folks involved in French class, Ned, Mark, Amy and Adamie have to be finished tomorrow since french class also occurs on Saturday! The screening will be also be on Saturday....we need to figure out details...
