Wow. Three incredible stories are being created!!!
Evangeline is completely finished! Her piece, The Healing Power of Story , has the voices of four generations of women in her family! This is part one of a series about multi-generational story sharing. Evangeline’s piece uses The Story of Raven as a touchstone to discuss the importance of storytelling. She also prompts the audience to consider their own story. BRAVO on the concept and artistry and hours of hard work!! Our World is SO EXCITED for people to hear what it was like when Alhkw’ntam opens the door! We are all so keen to hear what Evangeline creates next! ;)
Cori-jo’s piece is about the Powwow trail! She recorded four family songs as well as a lot of audio of her own voice. It was A LOT of footage to go through and organize. The songs are pure medicine and her voice is so conversational, it feels like she is taking us all on the road with her and letting us understand her experiences. Cori-jo has a few more tweaks to make, but it is almost there…!!! Thanks for sharing these stories!
Kyle’s piece is also the first part of a series! His concept it to consider food sovereignty, through history and into modernity. Kyle’s is a presentation of his thoughtful consideration around hunting and gathering as if we are sitting with him around the fire. This piece will perhaps have you considering the concept of food and your connection to it in a new way! Kyle will make a few more edits and then he too is done! He is also writing and recording the introduction for the three pieces as a collection, in order to give them context if they are played together. Thank you SO MUCH!
Shout-outs to mentors Helena and Koosen for having one-on-one meetings with all the audio makers, in order to provide mentorship beyond the workshop hours!
We have extended the workshop to meet one more time in order to get the final bits together and to celebrate as a group! We also plan to discuss ways to share and celebrate with the Nuxalk community and beyond! Stay tuned to find out as the plans hatch…
