Bella Bella - workshop day six
Today was full range weather day: clouds, hail, rain, snow, sun and more hail! Also a day of creativity!
Elle completed her audio edit, recorded herself drumming (using a beautiful drum her dad made with two hummingbirds on it that depict her mom and dad! So sweet) ….she also added the drumming to her timeline and started adding b-roll! Avery loved listening to Elle’s video! Elle’s film is about pride in being Indigenous and getting your power back!
Latoya filled her timeline with her b-roll plus added rough credits! This is a powerful piece speaking about the need for schools to understand generational trauma and treat Indigenous students with respect and understanding! It is very moving.
Aaliya animated over 300 frames today! Such an amazing animator and editor. They really understand animation and green screen. In Davinci (the editing program) it is a little complicated to remove the green screen but Aaliya does it like a champ! This piece at present is just under 2 minutes…that is A LOT of animation! Super exciting to see this spooky comedy come together.
Lisa W also organized an interview with Windspeaker today. Odette, a journalist, interviewed Lisa g, Lisa W, Latoya and Elle about the Our World program! Super cool opportunity. Thanks for organizing this Lisa W! We look forward to the article!
We also got a tour of the Big House today! Lori told us how Ian (Nusi) Reid carved the poles in the big house and he wouldn’t accept money for it. It was a labour of love and an hounour. Lori also shared with us that folks from Alert Bay helped them figure out how to make the sand better for the dancers by wetting it. Also they learned how to raise the fire pit higher to allow for more air ciruculation and have less smoke. So much to learn when you haven’t had a big house in a long time.
Here is a link to the opening ceremony of the ƛiác̓i (Big House) …that was held October 15th – 17th, 2019. Gvákva'áus Haíɫzaqv (Heiltsuk big house) was named by Chief Marilyn Slett.
