Old Crow - Friday workshop
Oh My Goodness. Almost there….
The water in the river is lower today…but still so pretty…just a bit of ice on the water….
We are starting by 9:30am today since we need to keeping running toward the finish line! And we have the Grand Opening of the Victoria Blake Elders Home and brunch at 12:20 as part of Caribou Days!
Kayleen finished her film today! She made very tiny changes and worked on her bio and bio picture for festival submissions and the Our World website! AWESOME!
Kayleen’s film uses her amazing photography from when she is out on the land and then she added her voice to provide context for the images. It is such a calming and beautiful film! She also created her professional INSTAGRAM account - CHECK IT OUT : @Kaysphotographyy_
Allan Benjamin came to visit, he used to live in Old Crow but was visiting for Caribou days. Alan is always fun to talk to….we learned about his snow shoe races, his running races and his fiddling and guitar talents. He has been playing music at night at Caribou Days to get people dancing!
Mary Jane continues to work on her film…the credits! the titles! the music! Mary Jane has incredible attention to detail! It is these small changes that really polish her film right up! It is fun to work with Mary Jane because once in a while we get to have a real good giggle. We believe this is her 12th film….she is such a seasoned pro!
Sophie has mastered the editing program Davinci so quickly ! She fine tuned her edit from almost 60 minutes down to 22 minutes and has added english subtitles and photos and video of her and Thomas and family and friends. Sophie’s film is a very big project for this timeline but clearly she is up to the task.
The mentors sometimes help with ‘non-creative’ jobs like equalizing all the audio. So we shall do this kind of thing tonight as mentor homework. We also organized some top secret t-shirts….we didn’t make it back to Caribou Days this night but we know there was more dancing and more laughing!
BTW - The New Elder ‘s Home is incredible - it was built by the community paid for by the community in order to keep Elders in the community instead of sending them to Whitehorse. There are 9 rooms - 7 for locals to live in full time and 2 kept to have visiting Elder’s stay for a short time . There is a wonderful common room where there will be many stories shared !! Vuntut Gwitchin Chief Pauline Frost spoke a few words and council member Jeneen Njootli and as well the Premier of the Yukon Ranj Pillai . MP Brendan Hanley was attending as well and we learned later that he is a big champion of safe injection sites in order to save lives. He seemed like a caring person. Brendan was attending Caribou Days with his wife and one of his sons.
Also of note the BRUNCH WAS DELICIOUS and we sat with Francis (amazing teacher from the 2012 workshop who made a cool video about Our World!), Elizabeth, Edward, Mary Jane and her wonderful niece Annie!
