Old Crow workshop day 3
Hello Saturday, what a lovely day to work on films!
Another busy day in the Our World storytelling workshop!
Mary Jane and Kayleen were bright and early and quick to get down to work by 10am! And Sophie came shortly after!
Both Mary Jane and Kayleen worked all morning on their scripts!
Sophie came prepared with her English text laid out. Then she arranged to have Jane help her for her interview Monday morning at 9am. Sophie will speak herself but because she will speak in Gwich’in she will need Jane’s help - Jane is a fluent speaker! Sophie also brought all her photos and sorted through those. So now she will be ready once she has her voice over collected! Amazing!
Vernon Jr came back with Izaiah and they worked together making some really cool animations! Caribou being chased by bear and a skidoo with a trailer full of caribou!
After a delicious lunch of seafood chowder and bannock…AND fluffy chocolate cupcakes….(Thanks Darryl!)
Mary Jane was ready to record! We used a small office storage space which may sound weird but had really good non-acoustics. It was perfect for voice over…but we all did have to be quiet. Mary Jane got all her English and Gwich’in recorded and then it was Kayleen’s turn. Kayleen recorded her whole script too.
Then Mary Jane started to lay down the audio and get her animation put on the timeline! It was so fun to see the Jijuu doll speak! AMAZING! An old photo was digitized and Megan found an archival photo for Mary Jane’s story as well.
Kayleen selected her audio clips and put them all on the timeline. She edited them all together! And then added the first photo - she learned about transitions and how to zoom in on a photo. Kayleen has a bit of homework considering what photos to use for the beginning and then end.
At some point today Mary Jane yelled “it’s breaking up!” and so we all ran to the windows and or outside to watch the river. It was SO exciting to see this interesting moment in spring in the north! WOW. The river suddenly had massive chunks flowing so fast and apparently sometimes they collide with the edge of the river and fly up on the bank so you have to be careful! We took photos and video…it was like the paparazzi for the Old Crow Superstar: The Porcupine River! It keep changing moment by moment. On the side suddenly it had a whirlpool and then a bunch of ice stopped moving all together and then it all looked fluffy like ice cream! Big trees float by and when you get real close the crystals crackle. A truly amazing thing to behold. The power of nature. I included a video below. WOW.
All in All a super exciting and productive day.
