Kangiqsujuaq - Workshop Day 6
In the morning, the mentors visit Pingualuit National Park Office and Museum to look through the archives finding images for Errayou’s film. Maali sets us up in the archival office. Nakumik! We find many images to show Errayou, that can help provide context for her film.
Nigel is able to complete his personal film making the final fixes on sound and subtitles. It is incredible! Powerful! Inspiring! It is an honest account of his dark moment considering suicide, yet making a different choice. Nigel wants to help Inuit youth with their complicated feelings and feelings of hopelessness in order for them to move through it to live their best life.
Nigel also works with his grandmother but the story is so intense that he needs to take a break. Nigel is a great communicator and knows how to take care of himself.
Errayou’s film is slightly over 30 minutes, so it is the longest Our World film. We all understand it to be a complete testimony, no one feels the need to edit Errayous’s words. It feels important to share her story exactly as she spoke it. Errayou speaks Inuktitut and mentors speak English, so everyone is communicating with heart and gestures. Mentors share the new archival images and Errayou selects the relevant archival imagery that fits her story. Errayou will return tomorrow at 4pm…to see the completed project.
Today was a very heavy day, 3 of the 4 projects contain trauma….it is emotional work, but we are all working together as a team to support each other.
Elaiysa saves us AGAIN with amazing food: Beef Barley soup for lunch and CARIBOU stew for dinner. Nakummiik.
The mentors work late to help participants move their projects forward.
Alex (resident animator) and Judith come and chat with us…joking with their ICE CREAM! What could be better than eating ice cream in -30 weather!
